I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a cruise line offer a circumnavigation of Australia cruise.  In January, 2011, Silversea is doing just that, with a 30-day cruise, roundtrip from Sydney. Silver Shadow’s itinerary will call on Brisbane, Whitsunday Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Port Douglas, Cooktown, Darwin, Broome, Exmouth, Perth, Albany, Port Lincoln, Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne and Hobart.   Presently,...keep reading

crystal symphony

On this last Sunday, Feb. 28th, I had the opportunity to see the totally refurbished and “like-new” Crystal Symphony. With the major enhancements Crystal Cruises has made to both the public areas and to the cabins, this ship looks GREAT.  In fact, if I hadn’t known that the ship had been built in 1995, I really would have thought I had walked onto a brand-new ship! While we’ve always been great...keep reading

Cruise cabins for single travelers from Norwegian Cruise Line.

Norwegian Cruise Line Single Cabins

For years the bane of taking a cruise for single travelers has been the additional 125% up to 200% supplement they are charged. Why are single supplements charged? Unlike an airline seat that can go empty on one flight and be sold the next, often in the same day, cruise cabins, which have almost always been built to accommodate two or more persons, on average operate 7-day cruises or longer. A berth that’s...keep reading

Oceania-Marina

Each year brings so many new cruise ships and innovative new tweaks,  it’s hard to summarize in a brief post what makes a cruise vacation so exciting and vibrant.  Going back a few years, everyone was amazed at the concept of a ship with an outdoor rock climbing wall (let alone an ice-skating rink or a pool table or bowling alley.) Now there are huge aqua parks, onboard surfing, ziplining, and more...keep reading

Royal Caribbean’s actions following the Haiti earthquake

Providing relief for Haiti

While there’s been some criticisim in the news about Royal Caribbean’s decision to continue to call upon Labadee, in Haiti, as a port of call, we applaud their decision.  Indeed there seems to be an incongruity with a large cruise ship with vacationing tourists calling on Haiti immediately following such devastation. However, it’s unfortunate those media talking heads haven’t thought...keep reading

Galapagos- on the beach

I had dreamed about visiting the Galapagos Islands ever since (many years ago) watching the PBS series, “The Voyage of the Beagle,” about Charles Darwin’s explorations. At last, my fantasy was becoming a reality, and who better to visit it with than National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions, who pioneered ecotourism to the Galapagos. If you are not looking for a life-changing experience, do not, repeat,...keep reading

Not only has the world introduced us to a brand New Year, but it has also ushered in a whole New Decade. Similarly, not only has Royal Caribbean introduced us to a brand New Ship, but they have also ushered in a whole New Era in mainstream cruising! I am referring to the innovative, imaginative and spectacular floating resort, the awesomely beautiful Oasis of the Seas.  This ship is amazingly unique, and therefore...keep reading

I was able to go to an exclusive sneak peak at the development of Disney Cruise Line’s new Disney Dream, scheduled to launch in January of 2011. The Disney Dream will be 47% larger than Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, with a 4,000 passenger capacity. The ship will be operating  3- and 4-day Bahamas cruises and an occasional 5-day cruise around the holidays. This ship will have some of the most intriguing...keep reading

AMA Waterways visits Budapest

We cruised the Legendary Danube itinerary for one week on AMA Waterways’ Amalyra.  This European river cruise was brilliant – I really loved every minute of it – it was such a great experience and a terrific way in which to travel. We arrived in Nuremberg via Rail Europe on November 9th – took a cab from the rail station to where the ship was docked –  about 10 minutes away.  The Captain and...keep reading

Oasis

I had the opportunity to take my family on a special inaugural sailing of the newest, biggest ship over Thanksgiving.   We sailed out of Fort Lauderdale on a cruise to nowhere to experience the fabulous new Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. Ee flew to Florida a few days early to visit family and rented a Hertz car to get around.  Our plan was to return the car to the airport and take the Royal Caribbean...keep reading
